Possible Causes
Dead remote batteries, Remote not aimed correctly or too far away, Failed IR receiver board on indoor unit, Electrical noise interference
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is needed for basic checks, but turn off power if removing indoor covers.
- Replace batteries: Install fresh, correct-type batteries in the Rheem remote. Ensure polarity is correct.
- Test remote: Point the remote at a smartphone camera and press a button; you should see the IR LED flash on the camera screen. If not, the remote is faulty.
- Check receiver window: Clean the IR receiver window on the indoor unit with a soft cloth.
- Receiver board: If the remote works but the unit does not respond, the IR receiver board or indoor PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
Warning: Avoid static discharge when handling indoor electronic boards.
