Possible Causes

Failed ECM or PSC blower motor, Faulty blower capacitor (PSC motors), Blower relay failure on control board, Blocked blower wheel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the air handler at the breaker before opening the blower compartment.

  • Check filter and coil: Ensure the filter is not collapsed and the evaporator coil is not a block of ice. If iced, turn system to OFF and fan to ON until fully thawed.
  • Inspect blower wheel: Remove the blower access panel and check for debris or heavy dust buildup on the wheel. Clean as needed.
  • Test motor (PSC): If your Rheem uses a PSC motor, inspect the run capacitor. A bulged or leaking capacitor should be replaced with the same µF and voltage rating.
  • ECM motors: For ECM blower motors, check the low-voltage control plug and high-voltage supply. If power is present but motor does not run, the motor module is likely failed and must be replaced.

Warning: Blower assemblies are heavy and can shift suddenly when unbolted. Support the assembly securely.
