Possible Causes
Loose condenser fan blade, Bent fan blade hitting shroud, Loose compressor mounting bolts, Loose cabinet panels or grille
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the disconnect before touching the fan or panels.
- Step 1 – Inspect fan blade: Look down into the Ruud condenser. Check if the fan blade is wobbling or contacting the shroud. Tighten the set screw on the motor shaft if loose.
- Step 2 – Check for debris: Remove sticks, leaves, or foreign objects that may be hitting the fan or coil guard.
- Step 3 – Tighten panels: Use a nut driver or screwdriver to tighten all cabinet screws. Add foam tape or vibration pads where panels rattle.
- Step 4 – Compressor mounts: Inspect compressor mounting bolts and rubber grommets. Tighten loose bolts; replace deteriorated grommets.
- Step 5 – Fan blade replacement: If the blade is bent or cracked, replace it with a Ruud-approved part to avoid imbalance and motor damage.
