Possible Causes
Open or shorted discharge thermistor, Poor sensor contact on discharge pipe, Damaged sensor wiring, Outdoor PCB sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: The discharge pipe can be extremely hot. Ensure power is OFF and allow time for cooling before touching any pipes.
- Step 1 – Locate sensor: In the outdoor unit, find the thermistor clipped to the compressor discharge pipe (small copper line leaving the compressor).
- Step 2 – Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped and insulated. Re-secure if loose.
- Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Look for cuts, rodent damage, or loose connectors on the sensor harness.
- Step 4 – Replace sensor: If the sensor is cracked or corroded, replace it with the correct Samsung discharge temperature sensor.
- Step 5 – If E163 persists: The outdoor PCB may misread the sensor and require professional diagnosis and replacement.
