Possible Causes
Clogged drain pan or hose, Improper drain pipe slope, Disconnected drain hose, Frozen evaporator coil causing overflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Turn off power and place towels or a container to catch water before opening the unit.
- Step 1 – Clean drain pan: Remove the front cover and filters. Wipe out algae, slime, and debris from the condensate pan.
- Step 2 – Clear drain hose: Locate the drain hose exit outside. Use a wet/dry vacuum to suck out blockages from the end of the hose for 1–2 minutes.
- Step 3 – Check hose slope: Ensure the drain hose slopes downward continuously from the indoor unit to the outlet, with no upward loops.
- Step 4 – Inspect for freezing: If the evaporator coil is iced over, turn the unit off and run FAN mode only until ice melts. Then clean filters and check airflow.
- Step 5 – Test for leaks: Pour a small amount of water into the drain pan and verify it flows freely out of the drain hose.
