Possible Causes
Clogged air filters, Blocked indoor air inlet or outlet, Low refrigerant charge, Faulty indoor coil thermistor reading too low
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the unit at the remote and breaker before cleaning or opening panels.
- Clean filters: Remove and wash the air filters with mild detergent and water. Dry completely before reinstalling.
- Check airflow: Ensure furniture, curtains, or covers are not blocking the indoor unit’s intake or discharge. Maintain clear space around the unit.
- Inspect coil: With the front cover open, look at the evaporator coil. If it is iced over, leave the unit off until all ice melts. Then restart in FAN mode for 30 minutes to dry the coil.
- Thermistor check: If E8 recurs with clean filters and good airflow, the coil thermistor may be misreading. Verify it is firmly attached to the coil and replace if suspect.
- Refrigerant issue: Persistent freezing and E8 despite good airflow often indicate low refrigerant or expansion device issues. This requires a licensed technician to leak-test, repair, evacuate, and recharge the system.
