Possible Causes

Open or shorted outdoor ambient thermistor, Disconnected sensor harness, Corroded connector at outdoor PCB, Faulty outdoor PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the outdoor unit breaker before opening the service panel.

  • Locate the sensor: The outdoor ambient thermistor is usually mounted near the outdoor coil or on the chassis, exposed to outside air, with two small wires leading to the PCB.
  • Check mounting and wiring: Ensure the sensor is securely fixed and wires are not cut or pinched. Reseat the connector on the outdoor PCB.
  • Resistance test: With power off and sensor disconnected, measure resistance and compare to Sharp’s temperature–resistance chart. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range.
  • PCB fault: If a new sensor does not clear F1, the outdoor PCB sensor circuit may be defective and the board will need replacement.
