Possible Causes
Faulty discharge pipe thermistor, Sensor not properly attached to discharge line, Blocked outdoor coil in heating mode, Overcharged refrigerant or blocked expansion device
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and allow the outdoor unit to cool before touching refrigerant pipes.
- Check sensor mounting: The discharge pipe sensor is usually strapped to the compressor discharge line. Ensure it is tightly attached with proper insulation over it.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires to the PCB and check for damage or loose connections.
- Outdoor coil cleanliness: In heating mode, the outdoor coil can frost or clog. Clean the coil fins with low-pressure water and a soft brush. Do not bend fins.
- Sensor replacement: If the sensor is cracked or resistance is out of spec, replace it with the correct Sharp discharge pipe thermistor.
- System issues: If F3 persists, there may be a refrigerant or expansion valve problem causing high discharge temperatures. This requires professional diagnosis.
