Possible Causes
Shorted compressor windings, Seized compressor, Faulty outdoor inverter PCB (for inverter models), Low supply voltage or loose power connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the breaker and verify no power is present before opening the outdoor electrical compartment.
- Check supply voltage: Have a qualified person measure voltage at the outdoor unit terminals. Low or fluctuating voltage can trigger E5.
- Inspect wiring: Look for burnt, loose, or discolored wires at the compressor terminals and outdoor PCB. Tighten loose screws and replace damaged wires.
- Listen for compressor: When powered, if the compressor hums loudly then trips, it may be seized or drawing excessive current.
- Do not bypass protections: Never bypass overloads or fuses; this can cause fire or compressor damage.
Compressor or inverter PCB diagnosis and replacement should be done by an HVAC technician with proper tools.
