Possible Causes
Blocked indoor fan wheel, Dirty blower causing imbalance and overload, Failing indoor fan motor bearings, Faulty indoor fan motor capacitor (on non-inverter models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate power before removing the indoor unit cover.
- Clean blower wheel: Remove the front panel and filters. Access the cross-flow fan (drum) and clean dust buildup using a soft brush and vacuum.
- Check for obstructions: Ensure no wires or plastic parts are rubbing against the fan wheel.
- Spin test: Gently rotate the fan by hand. It should spin freely without grinding noises. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be worn.
- Inspect capacitor (if fitted): On some SMEG models, a small capacitor is mounted near the fan motor. If bulged or leaking, replace with the same µF rating and voltage.
If E8 persists after cleaning and basic checks, the indoor fan motor likely needs replacement.
