Possible Causes
Failed compressor, Faulty start capacitor or relay (non-inverter models), Faulty inverter drive (inverter models), Open thermal overload inside compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: High voltage and refrigerant present. Only trained personnel should test compressor circuits.
- Listen for compressor: If there is no hum or vibration from the compressor body, it may not be receiving power.
- Check capacitor (non-inverter): A technician can test and replace the start/run capacitor if weak or open.
- Measure winding resistance: A professional should check compressor windings for open or short circuits.
- Allow cooling: If the compressor is very hot, let it cool for 1–2 hours and retry; an internal overload may have tripped.
Compressor or inverter PCB replacement is a major repair and should be done by an authorized SMEG service center.
