Possible Causes
Outdoor ambient temperature too high for rated operation, Blocked outdoor coil, Outdoor fan speed too low, Incorrect installation location with poor ventilation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before cleaning the outdoor unit.
- Step 1 – Improve ventilation: Ensure the outdoor unit has adequate clearance and is not installed in a confined space or near heat sources.
- Step 2 – Clean condenser coil: Remove debris and wash the coil gently as described for E3.
- Step 3 – Check outdoor fan: Confirm the fan runs at full speed in COOL mode. Replace the fan motor or capacitor if it is slow or intermittent.
- Step 4 – Adjust usage: During extreme heat, set the thermostat a few degrees higher to reduce load and prevent overload trips.
Warning: Persistent F5 in normal ambient conditions indicates a deeper system issue that should be checked by a technician.
