Possible Causes
Tripped outdoor disconnect, Failed contactor, Open high-pressure or low-pressure switch, Broken low-voltage control wire
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before opening panels.
Steps:
- 1. Check outdoor disconnect: Ensure the pull-out or breaker at the Tempstar condenser is fully inserted and ON.
- 2. Listen for contactor click: With thermostat calling for cooling, you should hear a click from the contactor. If not, the contactor may not be energizing.
- 3. Inspect low-voltage wires: Look for broken or chewed thermostat wires at the outdoor unit.
- 4. Visual check of contactor: If contacts are badly burned or pitted, replacement is needed.
- 5. Call a technician: Testing safeties and replacing contactors should be done by a professional.
