Possible Causes
Failed outdoor coil thermistor, Corroded thermistor connector, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty outdoor PCB sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off power at the outdoor disconnect and verify with a meter before touching any wiring.
- Step 1 – Access outdoor coil sensor: Remove the outdoor unit top or side panel to expose the condenser coil. Locate the thermistor clipped to the coil tubing.
- Step 2 – Inspect sensor and harness: Check that the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and the wires are intact. Look for UV damage or rodent bites.
- Step 3 – Check connector: Trace the harness to the outdoor PCB and ensure the plug is fully seated and free of corrosion.
- Step 4 – Measure resistance: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance. Compare to Toshiba’s temperature–resistance chart. Replace if open, shorted, or significantly off-spec.
- Step 5 – Replace sensor: Install a new Toshiba-compatible outdoor coil sensor, clip it securely to the coil, and route the cable away from fan blades.
- Step 6 – Test operation: Reassemble, restore power, and run the unit in cooling and heating (if heat pump) to confirm the error does not return.
