Water leaking from outdoor unit during heating mode (heat pump).

Possible Causes
Normal defrost cycle melting frost, Blocked outdoor drain holes, Missing or clogged drain pan heater (cold climates), Ice buildup restricting drainage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Be cautious of slippery ice around the outdoor unit. Turn off power before removing panels.
- Step 1 – Determine if normal: In heating mode, it is normal for water to drip from the outdoor unit during defrost. Clear pathways so water can drain away from the building.
- Step 2 – Check drain holes: Inspect the base pan of the outdoor unit and clear any debris blocking drain holes.
- Step 3 – Ice buildup: If ice is blocking drainage, gently remove loose ice. Do not use sharp tools that can damage the coil or pan.
- Step 4 – Drain pan heater (if equipped): In very cold climates, ensure the drain pan heater (if installed) is connected and functioning. Replacement may be needed if failed.
