Possible Causes
Shorted or locked compressor, Incorrect supply voltage or voltage drop, Faulty outdoor main PCB current sensing, Blocked condenser coil causing high current draw
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker and outdoor disconnect before inspection.
- Verify supply voltage: Use a multimeter (if qualified) to confirm voltage at the outdoor unit matches the Tosot nameplate rating and is within ±10%.
- Inspect outdoor coil and fan: Clean the condenser coil and ensure the fan is running freely and at full speed.
- Power reset: After correcting any airflow or voltage issues, reset power for 10 minutes and restart the system.
- If E5 recurs immediately: The compressor may be drawing excessive current due to internal failure, or the PCB current sensor may be faulty. A professional should measure compressor amperage and insulation resistance and replace the compressor or outdoor PCB as required.
Warning: Do not bypass overload or overcurrent protection; this is a fire and equipment damage hazard.
