Indoor unit emits unpleasant musty or moldy odor when starting

Safety first: Turn off power before cleaning.

• Clean filters: Wash filters thoroughly with soap and water and dry completely.
• Clean coil: Use a foaming evaporator coil cleaner approved for AC units. Follow product instructions and avoid oversaturating electronics.
• Disinfect drain pan: Wipe the pan with a diluted bleach solution (or AC-safe disinfectant) to kill mold and algae.
• Run fan-only mode: After cleaning, run the fan-only mode for 30–60 minutes to dry the coil.
• Preventive use: Periodically run the unit in fan-only mode after cooling to reduce moisture buildup.
