Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge due to leak, Restricted metering device (TXV), Dirty indoor evaporator coil, Faulty low-pressure switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before opening panels. Do not connect gauges or add refrigerant unless you are licensed.

  • Check air filter and airflow: Replace a dirty return air filter. Ensure all supply and return registers are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
  • Inspect indoor coil for icing: Remove the access panel to the Trane evaporator coil (above furnace or inside air handler). If the coil is covered in ice, turn system OFF and set thermostat to FAN ON only for several hours to thaw. After thawing, clean the coil surface with a soft brush and approved coil cleaner if accessible.
  • Verify blower operation: Make sure the indoor blower motor runs at full speed in cooling mode. Weak or non-operational blowers can cause low suction pressure.
  • Reset system: After thawing and cleaning, restore normal COOL operation and monitor. If E2 reappears, there may be a refrigerant leak or TXV issue.

Low-pressure faults often indicate a refrigerant problem. A Trane-certified technician should locate and repair leaks, verify TXV operation, and properly charge the system.
