Possible Causes
Open or shorted coil thermistor, Loose sensor clip on evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the indoor unit before removing the evaporator access panel.
- Locate coil sensor: Find the small sensor clipped to the evaporator coil tubing. Ensure it is firmly attached and in good contact with the copper tube.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board. Look for cuts, abrasions, or loose connectors. Repair or reseat as needed.
- Check for ice: If the coil is iced over, allow it to thaw completely before reattaching the sensor and restarting the system.
If F2 remains after securing the sensor and wiring, the thermistor should be replaced with a Trane-approved part.
