Trane System Icing / Low Suction Pressure

Ice forming on the Trane outdoor unit refrigerant lines or on the indoor evaporator coil.

Possible Causes

Dirty air filter, Low indoor airflow, Low refrigerant charge, Faulty TXV or metering device

Safety first: Turn off cooling mode to prevent compressor damage. Use FAN ONLY to help thaw the ice.

Thaw system: Allow several hours for all ice to melt before restarting cooling.
Airflow check: Replace the air filter, open all vents, and clean the indoor coil if accessible.
Monitor: After thawing and correcting airflow, restart cooling and monitor for re-icing.

If icing returns, a Trane technician must check refrigerant charge and TXV operation.
