Possible Causes

Dirty air filter, Low indoor airflow, Low refrigerant charge, Faulty TXV or metering device

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off cooling mode to prevent compressor damage. Use FAN ONLY to help thaw the ice.

  • Thaw system: Allow several hours for all ice to melt before restarting cooling.
  • Airflow check: Replace the air filter, open all vents, and clean the indoor coil if accessible.
  • Monitor: After thawing and correcting airflow, restart cooling and monitor for re-icing.

If icing returns, a Trane technician must check refrigerant charge and TXV operation.
