Indoor Coil Freeze Protection / Low Evaporator Temperature
Unit stops and displays E8; may be accompanied by reduced airflow and ice on indoor coil.

Possible Causes
Clogged air filter restricting airflow, Dirty indoor evaporator coil, Blower wheel heavily dusted, Low refrigerant charge causing coil to freeze
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the unit at the breaker to allow any ice on the coil to melt. Place towels under the unit if dripping is expected.
Steps to try:
- Clean or replace filters: Remove and wash reusable filters with mild soap and water. Let them dry completely before reinstalling. Replace disposable filters.
- Inspect evaporator coil: With the front cover off, check the coil for dust and lint. Use a soft brush and coil cleaner approved for aluminum fins.
- Check indoor fan speed: Ensure the fan is set to an appropriate speed and that the blower is actually running at that speed.
- Allow full thaw: Leave the unit off for several hours until all ice has melted, then restart in fan-only mode for 30 minutes before cooling.
When to call a technician: If E8 recurs with clean filters and good airflow, a technician should check refrigerant charge and the evaporator sensor.
