Possible Causes
Blocked condensate drain hose, Clogged internal drain pan outlet, Kinked or improperly sloped drain line, Failed condensate pump (on some cassette or floor models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to avoid electrical hazards from water near electronics.
Steps to try:
- Check drain hose: Locate the drain hose exiting the indoor unit. Ensure it slopes downward continuously and is not kinked or elevated.
- Clear blockage: Detach the hose end and blow through it or use a wet/dry vacuum at the outlet to remove sludge and algae.
- Clean drain pan: Remove the front cover and inspect the drain pan under the evaporator. Remove debris and flush with warm water and a mild disinfectant.
- Inspect condensate pump (if fitted): Listen for pump operation. If silent and the pan is full, the pump may have failed and needs replacement.
When to call a technician: If E9 persists after clearing the drain, the float switch or pump assembly may be defective and should be serviced professionally.
