Possible Causes
Blocked or very dirty outdoor condenser coil, Failed outdoor fan motor, Overcharged refrigerant, Non‑condensable gases in system, Faulty high‑pressure switch or sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: High refrigerant pressure is dangerous. Do not attempt to open the refrigerant circuit without proper certification. Always isolate power before cleaning or inspection.
- Clean outdoor coil: Turn off power. Remove leaves and debris from the outdoor coil. Use a soft brush and low‑pressure water from inside out to clean the fins. Avoid bending fins.
- Check outdoor fan: Restore power briefly and start cooling. Confirm the outdoor fan runs at full speed. If not, see the outdoor fan motor fault procedure.
- Ensure airflow clearance: Make sure there is at least 30–50 cm clearance around the outdoor unit and no objects blocking discharge air.
- Reset power: After cleaning and verifying fan operation, power cycle the system and test again.
- If E1 persists: The system may be overcharged, have a blocked refrigerant circuit, or a faulty high‑pressure switch. These require gauges and specialist tools; contact a certified Vaillant service technician.
