Possible Causes
Corrupted control board firmware, power surge damage, failed EEPROM chip, moisture or corrosion on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or PCB cover.
Steps:
- Power cycle: Turn off power for at least 10 minutes to allow the control to fully reset. Restore power and check if E9 clears.
- Inspect PCB: Remove the control cover and look for signs of moisture, corrosion, burnt components, or insect damage.
- Dry and clean: If moisture is present, gently dry the board with low heat (hair dryer on cool/warm) and clean light corrosion with contact cleaner.
- Check grounding: Ensure the unit is properly grounded and that the supply voltage is within the specified range.
- Surge protection: Consider installing a surge protector to prevent future memory corruption from voltage spikes.
- Replace PCB: If E9 persists, the control PCB (with EEPROM) is likely defective and must be replaced with the correct Westinghouse board for your model.
Note: PCB replacement involves transferring connectors carefully; take photos before removal to ensure correct reinstallation.
