Possible Causes
Normal protection operation, low outdoor temperature causing extended preheat, sensor calibration causing extended H1 display
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: H1 on many Westinghouse heat pump models is a status indication, not a fault. It indicates the unit is in preheating or defrost mode.
Steps:
- Wait 5–10 minutes: Allow the unit time to complete preheating or defrost. Warm air should resume automatically.
- Check filters and coils: Dirty indoor or outdoor coils can prolong defrost cycles. Clean filters and coils as needed.
- Observe frequency: If H1 appears constantly and heating is poor, there may be an underlying sensor or refrigerant issue requiring professional diagnosis.
When to call a technician: If H1 never clears or heating performance is inadequate, have a technician check sensors, refrigerant charge, and defrost control.
