Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain pan or tube, unit not level (tilted inward), damaged or rusted drain pan, blocked weep holes on window unit chassis
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off and unplug the unit before working around water and electrical parts.
Steps:
- Check unit level: For window units, ensure the unit is slightly tilted toward the outside so water drains outdoors.
- Clean drain pan: Remove the front cover and access the condensate pan under the evaporator coil. Remove debris, slime, and dirt.
- Clear drain tube: For split systems, locate the PVC drain line and blow through it with compressed air or flush with water to remove clogs.
- Inspect for cracks: Check the drain pan for cracks or rust holes. Replace the pan if damaged.
- Check insulation: Ensure insulation around the coil is intact to prevent condensation from dripping in the wrong place.
