Possible Causes

Seized or obstructed indoor blower, Failed indoor fan motor, Faulty fan capacitor (if used), Loose or burnt fan motor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. Beware of sharp metal edges and moving parts.

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the front grille or filter and visually inspect the blower wheel. Remove any foreign objects (plastic, paper, insulation) that may be jamming the fan.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or binding. If it is stiff or seized, the indoor fan motor bearings may be failing.
  • Inspect wiring: Access the fan motor compartment and check all connectors for tightness and signs of overheating or melting.
  • Capacitor check (if applicable): Some models use a run capacitor for the fan. A bulged or leaking capacitor should be replaced with the correct fan motor capacitor (same µF and voltage rating).
  • Motor test (advanced): With power disconnected, measure motor winding resistance according to the service manual. Open windings or shorted readings indicate a bad motor.
  • Replace motor: If the motor is seized or electrically defective, replace the indoor fan motor assembly. Transfer the blower wheel carefully and balance it properly.
  • Test: Reassemble, restore power, and test operation. If E8 persists with a new motor, the main control board's fan drive circuit may be faulty.
