Possible Causes

Low refrigerant charge from leak, Restricted metering device (TXV or piston), Dirty indoor evaporator coil, Failed or open low‑pressure switch

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and outdoor disconnect before opening panels. Refrigerant work must be done by a certified technician.

  • Check air filters and airflow: Replace clogged return filters and make sure all supply and return grilles are open. Poor airflow can cause coil freeze and low pressure.
  • Inspect indoor coil: Remove the York air handler or furnace access panel and visually inspect the evaporator coil. If iced, leave system off with fan on for several hours to thaw, then clean the coil with approved coil cleaner.
  • Look for signs of refrigerant leak: Oil stains on copper lines, at braze joints, or on the evaporator coil are common leak indicators. Do not attempt to add refrigerant yourself.
  • Check low‑pressure switch wiring: With power off, inspect the low‑pressure switch on the suction line for loose or damaged wires. Repair any poor connections.
  • Call a technician: A York‑qualified HVAC tech should pressure‑test, locate and repair leaks, replace the filter‑drier, evacuate, and recharge to factory specs if low charge is confirmed.
