Possible Causes

Failed indoor DC fan motor, Blocked blower wheel, Faulty indoor fan driver on PCB, Loose fan motor connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing the indoor unit cover.

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the front panel and filter. Inspect the blower wheel for foreign objects, heavy dust buildup, or ice. Clean thoroughly.
  • Inspect fan motor wiring: Ensure the multi‑pin connector from the indoor fan motor to the PCB is fully seated and not corroded.
  • Spin the blower by hand: It should rotate freely. If stiff or noisy, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
  • Test motor (if equipped): Some York units allow motor self‑test via service mode; follow the service manual. If the motor does not respond, replace the indoor fan motor assembly.
  • If motor is good but E8 remains: The indoor PCB fan driver circuit may be defective and require board replacement.
