Possible Causes

Clogged primary drain line, Rusted or cracked drain pan, Improper trap or slope on drain, Blocked secondary drain or float switch not wired

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power to the air handler. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.

  • Clear primary drain: Use a wet/dry vacuum at the outside drain termination to remove sludge. Flush with water and a small amount of approved cleaner.
  • Inspect drain pan: Remove access panel and check the York evaporator pan for cracks or rust‑through. Replace pan if leaking.
  • Verify trap and slope: Ensure the drain line has a proper P‑trap and slopes continuously downward away from the unit.
  • Check float switch: If a safety float is installed on the secondary pan or drain, test it and wire it correctly to shut off the system when water is detected.
