Possible Causes
New unit burning off manufacturing residues, Plastic film or packaging left on components, Wiring insulation touching heating element, Deformed plastic near heater due to prior overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see smoke or flames, unplug immediately and do not use the appliance until inspected.
Steps to investigate:
- Initial burn-in: For a new AEG air fryer, run an empty cycle at 200°C for 10–15 minutes with good ventilation. A mild odor is normal initially but should dissipate.
- Check for packaging: Remove the basket and inspect for any plastic films, labels, or cable ties left inside or near the heater. Remove all foreign materials.
- Inspect wiring routing: Access the heater area and ensure no wires or plastic clips are touching the heating element or metal surfaces that get very hot. Re-route and secure with high-temperature ties.
- Look for melted plastic: Examine the inner top housing and fan shroud for signs of melting or deformation. If present, replace the affected inner housing / heater shroud components.
- Test again: After corrections, run a short cycle and monitor for smell. If the odor persists or worsens, discontinue use and have the unit professionally inspected.
