Possible Causes
Vibrating SMPS transformer or inductor, PWM-driven fan motor resonance, Loose coil on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug before opening the control housing.
Steps to reduce whine:
- Confirm source: Listen carefully to determine if the noise comes from the fan area or the control board area.
- Fan-related: If from the fan, inspect and replace the circulation fan motor if the noise is excessive or accompanied by vibration.
- PCB-related: If from the control board, inspect inductors and transformers. Gently pressing on them (with power off) may reveal loose windings. Applying a small amount of approved varnish or replacing the main control board can resolve the issue.
- Acceptable noise: Some mild high-frequency noise is normal with PWM control, but loud or worsening whine indicates a developing fault.
