Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains and let it cool fully before inspection.
Diagnostic and fix steps:
- Check for overheating: If the basket was overfilled or air vents blocked, the unit may have overheated. Remove food, clean grease from vents, and allow at least 30 minutes to cool. Try again.
- Access the sensor: Remove the rear or top cover to reach the heating assembly. Locate the NTC sensor clipped to the heater shroud or air duct.
- Inspect placement: Ensure the sensor is not touching the heating element directly and is properly clipped in its holder. If it has slipped out and is in direct contact with the element, reposition it correctly.
- Check wiring for shorts: Look for melted insulation or wires touching metal chassis or each other. Separate and re-insulate with high-temperature sleeving or replace the harness if badly damaged.
- Measure resistance: With a multimeter, measure the NTC at room temperature. A reading near 0–1 kΩ or fluctuating wildly indicates a shorted or failed sensor. Replace with an OEM AEG NTC temperature sensor.
- Reassemble and test: Refit covers, ensure vents are clear, and run a short test cycle. Monitor for E2 reoccurrence.
Note: If the sensor and wiring are correct but E2 persists, the main control board may be misreading the sensor and should be evaluated or replaced by a professional.
