Possible Causes
Blocked air vents causing overheating, Failed or mispositioned temperature sensor, Faulty thermal fuse or thermostat tripping early, Main control PCB misreading temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Do not cover vents during operation.
- Step 1 – Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer has at least 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) clearance on all sides and is not under cabinets. Clear any obstructions from the rear and bottom vents.
- Step 2 – Clean air paths: Remove the basket and drawer. Clean grease buildup from the basket, drawer, and especially the top area near the heating element and fan guard. Grease can trap heat.
- Step 3 – Inspect fan operation: Start a short cycle and listen for the internal fan. If the fan does not run or is very weak, the unit can overheat and trigger E3. See fan‑related entries for repair steps.
- Step 4 – Check sensor placement: With the unit unplugged and opened, verify the NTC sensor is properly clipped in its bracket near the heater, not dangling or touching the element directly.
- Step 5 – Thermal fuse/thermostat check: Locate the thermal fuse or bimetal thermostat mounted on or near the heater shroud. If it has discolored or shows signs of heat damage, it may be tripping prematurely and should be replaced with the same rating.
- Step 6 – If E3 persists: After cleaning and verifying airflow and sensor placement, persistent E3 usually indicates a failing sensor or control PCB. Replace the temperature sensor first; if the fault remains, replace the main control PCB.
