Possible Causes

Shorted heating element, Shorted main control PCB triac or relay, Damaged power cord or internal wiring short to chassis, Faulty overcurrent protection circuit on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit immediately. Do not repeatedly reset the breaker or use the fryer if it trips power or shows E5.

  • Step 1 – External check: Inspect the power cord for cuts, burns, or crushed sections. If damaged, the cord must be replaced before further use.
  • Step 2 – Smell and visual inspection: Remove the bottom or rear cover and look for burnt components on the main control PCB, melted insulation, or scorch marks near the heater terminals.
  • Step 3 – Heater resistance check (for experienced DIYers): Disconnect the heater leads from the PCB. Measure resistance across the heating element. A very low reading (near 0 Ω) or direct short to chassis indicates a failed element.
  • Step 4 – Inspect PCB switching device: On the control board, locate the heater relay or triac. Look for cracks, bulging, or burn marks. A shorted device can trigger E5 and may require full PCB replacement.
  • Step 5 – Replace faulty parts: Replace the heating element assembly if shorted. If the element is normal but E5 persists and the PCB shows damage, replace the main control PCB as a complete unit.
  • Step 6 – Do not bypass safety: Never bypass fuses, thermostats, or protective circuits to clear E5. If you are not comfortable testing for shorts, contact a qualified appliance technician.
