Possible Causes

Tripped thermal cutoff on heater bracket, Failed bimetal high-limit thermostat, Blocked air vents causing overheating, Faulty main control PCB misreading overheat condition

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes. Do not cover vents or operate near flammable materials.

Basic reset:

  • Remove the basket and pan and ensure there is no foil or food debris blocking the air outlets or intake vents on the back and bottom of the unit.
  • Let the unit sit unplugged until it is completely cool to the touch, then plug back in and test. Some Bella models will clear an overheat E2 once cooled.

Internal inspection (for experienced DIYers):

  • Remove the outer housing screws to access the heater assembly at the top of the cooking cavity.
  • Locate the thermal cutoff fuse and/or bimetal high-limit thermostat mounted on or near the heater bracket. These are small round or capsule-shaped devices wired in series with the heating element.
  • Check for signs of overheating: discoloration, melted insulation, or a blown thermal fuse (often looks darkened or cracked).
  • Use a multimeter (with unit unplugged) to test continuity across the high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse. A good device should read near 0Ω. An open reading (OL) indicates it has tripped or failed.
  • If the thermal fuse is open, it must be replaced with the same temperature and current rating. Do not bypass or substitute with an incorrect part.
  • Clean dust and grease from the heater shroud and fan area to improve airflow and prevent future overheating.

If E2 persists after replacing a failed cutoff/thermostat and cleaning vents, the main control PCB may be falsely detecting an overheat condition and should be replaced or the unit professionally serviced.
