Possible Causes
Shorted NTC temperature sensor, Thermostat stuck closed, Control board not cycling heater, Sensor detached from heater housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug immediately if you smell burning plastic or see smoke. Allow to cool fully.
Steps:
- 1. Test at low setting: After cooling, run at the lowest temperature and monitor. If it still overheats, stop use.
- 2. Inspect sensor: Access the NTC sensor and verify it is firmly attached to the heater plate or in its designated location. Reattach if loose.
- 3. Sensor test: Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to Bosch specifications. A very low resistance (near short) can cause the board to overdrive the heater.
- 4. Thermostat: Check the safety thermostat for proper operation; if welded closed, replace.
- 5. Control board: If sensors and thermostat are correct, the control board may be failing to regulate power and should be replaced.
Do not continue using an air fryer that overheats; it is a fire hazard.
