Possible Causes

Blocked air vents causing overheating, Failed or stuck high-limit thermostat, Faulty temperature sensor reading too low, Grease buildup around exhaust fan reducing airflow

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool completely. Overtemperature faults indicate potentially dangerous conditions.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the air fryer has at least 5–10 cm (2–4 in) clearance on all sides and is not pushed against a wall or under low cabinets. Clear any obstructions from rear and side vents.
  • Clean exhaust area: Remove the crumb tray and any accessible filters. Clean grease and crumbs from the exhaust vents and fan intake using a soft brush and dry cloth.
  • Inspect high-limit thermostat: Access the internal components and locate the high-limit thermostat / thermal cutoff mounted near the heating element. Some models use a resettable thermostat with a small button; if present, press gently to reset.
  • Test thermostat continuity: With the unit unplugged, test the high-limit thermostat with a multimeter. It should show continuity at room temperature. If it is open and non-resettable, replace it.
  • Check sensor placement: Verify the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC) is firmly attached to the metal surface and not hanging loose in the air, which can cause incorrect readings.

If E3 recurs after cleaning and replacing the high-limit thermostat, the control board may be misreading temperature and should be evaluated by a technician.
