Possible Causes
Protective coatings not burned off properly, Overheating of plastic trim near heater, Non-stick basket coating overheating, Poor ventilation around unit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good ventilation when performing burn-in cycles.
- Initial burn-in: Run the air fryer empty (or with a small amount of water in a pan if recommended) at a high temperature for 15–20 minutes, then cool. Repeat 2–3 times to burn off manufacturing residues.
- Inspect basket and tray: Check the non-stick basket and tray for peeling or blistering coating. Replace if damaged.
- Check plastic parts: Look for warped or discolored plastic near the heater. Replace affected trim or shields.
- Improve ventilation: Operate the unit in a well-ventilated area away from walls and cabinets.
If the smell remains strong and chemical after multiple burn-in cycles, discontinue use and contact Breville or a service center.
