Possible Causes
Protective oils on heating element, Residual manufacturing residues on interior surfaces, New nonstick coating curing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Operate the unit in a well-ventilated area away from smoke detectors during initial burn-in.
- Initial cleaning: Wash the basket, tray, and accessories with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- Burn-in cycle: Run the empty fryer at 400°F (or highest setting) for 15–20 minutes, then allow to cool. Repeat once if odor persists.
- Inspect for melting: If the smell is very strong or you see smoke from plastic areas, unplug and inspect for melted components near the heater. Replace any damaged parts.
- Persistent odor: If chemical smell continues after several burn-in cycles and cleaning, discontinue use and contact Chefman support or a technician to inspect for overheating or material defects.
