Safety first: Unplug the Cuisinart air fryer and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels. Do not work on a hot appliance.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes E1 is a transient sensor reading error.
- Step 2 – Check for obvious damage: Inspect the exterior for signs of overheating or melting around the vents. If you see burn marks or melted plastic, stop and contact a technician.
- Step 3 – Access the temperature sensor: Remove the rear or top cover (varies by model such as TOA-60, TOA-70, AFR-25). The oven cavity temperature sensor (NTC probe) is usually mounted on the inner wall or top of the cooking chamber with two wires leading to the control board.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Check that the sensor connector is firmly seated on the control board. Look for broken, pinched, or burned wires in the harness.
- Step 5 – Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. A typical Cuisinart NTC will read in the tens of kilo-ohms (e.g., 50–100 kΩ at 25°C). An infinite reading indicates an open sensor.
- Step 6 – Replace faulty parts: If the sensor is open or physically damaged, replace the oven cavity temperature sensor (NTC probe). If the sensor tests good but E1 persists, the main control board may have a failed sensor input and should be replaced.
