Possible Causes
Temperature sensor shorted to chassis, Sensor wires melted against heater, Failed NTC sensor reading very low resistance, Control board misreading sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the air fryer and let it cool completely. Do not attempt repairs while the unit is hot.
- Step 1 – Basic reset: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and test. If E2 returns immediately, proceed to inspection.
- Step 2 – Inspect vents and fan: Make sure air inlets and outlets are not blocked. A blocked fan or vent can cause real overtemperature and trigger E2.
- Step 3 – Access the sensor and heater area: Remove the outer cover to expose the heating element and temperature sensor assembly. On many Cuisinart models, the sensor is near the upper heating element.
- Step 4 – Look for melted insulation: Check if the sensor wires are touching the heating element or have melted insulation causing a short. Gently separate any wires from hot surfaces and secure them with high-temperature cable ties or clips.
- Step 5 – Test the sensor: With a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads at room temperature. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted.
- Step 6 – Replace components: If the sensor tests normal but E2 persists, the main control board may be misinterpreting the signal and should be replaced.
If you smell burning or see charring around the heater, discontinue use and have the unit professionally inspected.
