Possible Causes
Misaligned door latch, Broken door switch actuator, Failed microswitch, Loose wiring to door/basket switch on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
- Step 1 – Check door/basket closure: Ensure the door is fully closed and the basket or tray is inserted correctly. On drawer-style Cuisinart air fryers, push the basket firmly until it clicks.
- Step 2 – Inspect latch and hooks: Look at the plastic latch tabs on the door or basket and the metal hooks inside the cavity. If any are bent or broken, the switch may not be actuated.
- Step 3 – Access the switch: Remove the outer housing or control panel to locate the door/basket interlock switch. It is usually a small microswitch near the latch mechanism.
- Step 4 – Test the switch: With a multimeter, check continuity across the switch terminals while manually pressing the actuator. The reading should change from open to closed. If not, replace the switch.
- Step 5 – Adjust alignment: If the switch works but is not being pressed fully by the latch, adjust its mounting position slightly or gently bend the actuator lever so it engages properly.
Never bypass the door or basket safety switch; doing so can create a fire and burn hazard.
