Possible Causes
Grease buildup on heater and cavity, Food particles on heating element, New-unit protective oils burning off, Faulty temperature control causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see heavy smoke or flames, unplug immediately and carefully remove the basket. Do not open the drawer fully if flames are present; smother with a damp (not dripping) cloth if safe.
Steps:
- Initial use: New Electrolux air fryers may emit slight odor during first uses. Run empty at high temperature for 10–15 minutes with good ventilation to burn off residues.
- Deep cleaning: Remove basket, crisper plate, and any racks. Clean thoroughly with warm soapy water. Wipe the interior walls and heater guard with a damp cloth (unit unplugged and cool).
- Inspect heater: Look for baked-on grease or food on the element. Gently remove loose debris with a soft brush; do not scrape the element.
- Check temperature control: If burning smell persists even when clean and at normal temperatures, the unit may be overheating due to a faulty sensor or control board. Discontinue use and have the sensor and PCB tested/replaced.
