Possible Causes

Blocked air vents causing overheating, Failed or stuck-on heating element relay on control board, Faulty high-limit thermostat, Excessive grease buildup restricting airflow

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. Do not operate with covers removed.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the fryer has at least 5 inches (12 cm) of clearance on all sides and is not pushed against a wall or under low cabinets. Clear any obstructions from rear and side vents.
  • Clean interior thoroughly: Remove baskets, racks, and drip tray. Clean heavy grease from the cavity walls, fan guard, and heater area with a non-abrasive cleaner. Built-up grease can trap heat.
  • Inspect fan operation: Start a short cycle and listen for the fan. If the fan does not run or is weak, the unit can overheat and trigger E3. See fan-related entries for repair steps.
  • Check high-limit thermostat: With the unit unplugged and rear cover removed, locate the small round thermal cutoff or thermostat mounted near the heater. Inspect for signs of overheating or a tripped manual reset (if present). Reset if it has a button; otherwise, test continuity with a multimeter and replace if open.
  • Control board relay check (advanced): If the heater stays on continuously or cycles erratically, the heater relay on the main control board may be stuck. Inspect the board for burnt spots and replace the board if damaged.
