Possible Causes

Shorted heating element, Damaged heater wiring harness, Failed heater relay on main control board, Internal short to chassis ground

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the fryer. Do not attempt to power it on with covers removed. Risk of electric shock and fire.

  • Visual inspection: Remove the rear cover and top cover (if accessible). Inspect the heating element for cracks, burn marks, or broken sections. Check wiring from the board to the heater for melted insulation or loose terminals.
  • Check heater resistance: With the unit unplugged, disconnect at least one heater lead and measure resistance across the element. A typical element will show a finite resistance (e.g., 10–40Ω). A reading near 0Ω or visible arcing indicates a shorted element that must be replaced.
  • Inspect for shorts to chassis: With one meter lead on the heater terminal and the other on bare metal chassis, you should read open (OL). Any measurable resistance indicates a short to ground; replace the heater assembly.
  • Check wiring harness: Ensure all spade connectors are tight and fully seated. Replace any burnt or discolored connectors and wires.
  • If heater and wiring are good: The main control board’s heater relay or triac may be shorted or failing. Replace the main control board if E4 persists.
