Possible Causes
Dry or worn fan motor bearings, Fan blade rubbing against housing, Resonance from loose mounting screws
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug and cool the unit before inspection.
Steps to reduce squealing noise:
- Confirm source: Listen near the rear or top vents to confirm the noise is from the fan area.
- Access fan assembly: Remove the bottom cover to reach the fan motor and blade.
- Check for rubbing: Spin the fan by hand and observe if it contacts the housing. Adjust the blade position or motor mount to provide clearance.
- Tighten mounts: Tighten all screws securing the fan motor and heater bracket.
- Replace motor: If the squeal persists and the motor feels rough when spun by hand, replace the fan motor assembly.
Note: Lubricating sealed motor bearings is generally not effective; replacement is the long-term solution.
