Possible Causes
Drifting NTC temperature sensor, Poor thermal contact between sensor and cavity, Grease buildup insulating sensor, Faulty temperature control circuit on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug and cool the unit before internal inspection.
Steps to improve temperature accuracy:
- Verify with thermometer: Use an oven-safe thermometer placed in the basket to compare actual temperature to the setpoint. Allow at least 10 minutes of preheat.
- Clean sensor area: Remove basket and pan. Gently clean the interior walls and especially the area where the sensor is mounted (often a small metal probe or bump). Remove baked-on grease that can insulate the sensor.
- Check sensor mounting: With the bottom cover removed, confirm the sensor is firmly attached to the cavity wall or bracket and has not pulled away.
- Replace sensor if drifting: If readings are consistently off by a large margin and cleaning does not help, replace the NTC temperature sensor probe with a compatible Farberware part.
- Control board replacement: If a new sensor does not correct the issue, the temperature control circuit on the main PCB may be faulty and require board replacement.
Tip: Some variation (±10–15°F) is normal; focus on large or inconsistent deviations.
