Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Farberware air fryer and let it cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
Steps to check and address E1:
- Power reset: Unplug the fryer for 10 minutes, then plug back in and try a short cook cycle. If E1 returns, continue below.
- Access the sensor: Remove the basket and pan. Turn the unit upside down on a soft surface. Remove the screws securing the bottom cover to access the internal components.
- Locate the NTC sensor: Find the small metal probe or bulb attached near the heating chamber wall or behind the rear inner panel. It will be connected by two thin wires to the control board.
- Check wiring and connectors: Inspect the sensor wires for burns, cuts, or breaks. Ensure the plug is firmly seated on the main control PCB. Reseat the connector by unplugging and plugging it back in.
- Test continuity (if you have a meter): With the fryer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the two sensor leads. A typical NTC will show several kilo-ohms at room temperature. If it reads open (infinite) or 0 ohms, the sensor is defective.
- Replace the sensor if faulty: Remove any mounting screws or clips holding the sensor in place. Install a compatible Farberware NTC temperature sensor probe, route the wires as originally, and reconnect to the control board.
- If wiring and sensor are good: The fault may be on the main control PCB (sensor input circuit). Inspect the board for burned spots or cracked solder joints. Replacement of the control board is usually required if damage is found.
When to stop: If you are not comfortable opening the unit or testing with a multimeter, stop after the power reset and visual inspection and contact a qualified appliance technician.
