Possible Causes

Open heating element coil, Burned spade connector on heater terminals, Broken heater wiring harness, Failed heater relay on main control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the air fryer and allow it to cool. The heating element and surrounding metal can be very hot.

Steps to address E5:

  • Visual inspection: Look inside the cooking cavity at the heating element. Check for visible breaks, sagging, or burn spots on the element.
  • Access heater terminals: Turn the unit upside down, remove the bottom cover, and locate the two heavy-gauge wires going to the heating element terminals.
  • Check connectors: Inspect the spade connectors for discoloration, melting, or looseness. Tighten or replace any damaged connectors and ensure they fit snugly on the element tabs.
  • Test the element: Disconnect at least one wire from the element and measure resistance across the terminals. A typical air fryer element will show a low but finite resistance (often 10–40 ohms). If it reads open (infinite), the element is defective.
  • Replace the heating element: Remove any mounting screws or brackets holding the element. Carefully remove the old element and install a compatible Farberware heating element assembly, routing wires as originally and securing all hardware.
  • Check heater relay: If the element tests good, inspect the main control PCB for a stuck or burned heater relay. Look for darkened areas or cracked solder joints. Replace the control board if the relay or board is damaged.

Note: After replacing the element or board, run a short test cycle without food to verify proper heating and to burn off any manufacturing residues.
